How to Leverage Content Curation for Your Content Marketing Needs

You may or may not have heard of content curation, but it’s a growing and important aspect of your complete marketing strategy.  Unlike original written content, curated content is that which is taken from other places and shared.  All of your content, whether curated or originally produced, needs to have proper balance to provide value to viewers and keep a meaningful flow of engaging information.  The rule of thumb, however, is to always make sure to include links and provide proper credit to the source author or company if you’re sharing other peoples information.  As long as you identify the author and source appropriately, curating content isn’t plagiarism or stealing.   Think of it, however, as sharing good and relevant information.

Content curation is generally defined as when you assess content from a multitude of sources, gather links to those sources, share descriptions of that content, add your own observations to that content, and publish all of those pieces in a single location, you’re curating content.  While the collection and syndication are primarily automated processes, curation is not. True content curation requires human intellect, analysis, and involvement

One way you can leverage other peoples content to your advantage is to increase your blog schedule and begin sharing evocative and relevant information from across the web.  Slideshows are another appealing means by which you can increase your blog visits.  There are several online tools that help you streamline your content curation process and content marketing efforts with some even allowing you to embed the content you want to share directly in your social media outlets an blog.

Content aggregation can also help.  This is the method by which people gather links for content and provide nothing else.  Those links, however, guide your viewers to the content you want to share and dually provide recognition to the original author.  Moreover, content syndication is aggregated and redistributed content for mass consumption through a third party such as NewsCred and Newstex.
